Atchison Hospital’s Best Care Health Fair 2009 Announced

October 2, 2009

Atchison Hospital’s Best Care Health Fair 2009 will be on Saturday, October 10. This year’s health fair will be from 8 a.m. to noon at Atchison Elementary School, 825 N. 17th St. The health fair includes a variety of 48 booths, including community businesses and organization as well as hospital departments.

Indoor and Outdoor activities and events make the health fair a family fun day. Events that are back by popular demand include helicopter and ambulance tours, a jaws of life demonstration, and mini doll hospital. New this year, the health fair will have a bike rodeo. The first 50 children to participate in the bike rodeo, learning bike safety and rules of the road, will receive a free helmet.

Several health screenings are offered at the health fair. Most of the screenings are free, but some have a small fee. Among this year’s screenings there are: Hearing tests, finger stick fasting blood sugar and lipid profile tests. Participants will also be able to get their blood pressure checked.

Healthy snacks, car seat safety checks, CPR and AED Demonstrations, a Wii Fit giveaway, Kids grand prize bicycle, and adult grand prize gift card are also features of the health fair. There will also be a lot of giveaways and door prizes for participants. Last year over 300 people attended Atchison Hospital’s Best Care Community Health Fair and this year the hospital is expecting an even greater turn out.

Due to lack of availability, we are unable to offer the flu vaccine at our health fair this year. We apologize for any inconvenience this has created.
