Atchison Hospital, Atchison, Kansas April 22, 2009 On April 6th the Kansas Board of EMS completed their annual inspection of Atchison’s Hospital’s EMS. The inspection is done to ensure all facets of the ambulance service meets or exceeds the state regulations and statutes. The Board checked for outdated supplies or medications, and checked to ensure that the ambulances are stocked with all the equipment that is on the EMS equipment list. They also checked to see if EMS has QA/QI policies and procedures in place and that they are followed. Medical protocols were also checked to ensure that they are in place. Standard operating procedures, which control emergency driving, crime scenes, and mass casualty incidents, were also reviewed. “We keep up effort throughout the year to stay up to date with regulations. We already have systems in place to check for similar things that the Board checks for, such as outdated medications. Prior to the Board’s visit we double check to make sure everything is running smoothly,” said Bob Harmon EMS Director. For the last four years, Atchison Hospital’s EMS has had zero deficiencies and this year was no exception. For the fifth straight year the EMS has passed inspection without a deficiency. EMS always rises to the challenge of this inspection. “I’m very grateful to my staff. They do an excellent job, and they have ensured no deficiencies for the past five years,” Harmon said. |
